Remember
- When...the worst thing you could do at school was smoke in the bathroom or behind the boiler room, flunk a test or chew gum in class.
- When being sent to the Principal’s office was nothing compared to the wrath you faced at home afterward.
- When girls wore dresses and looked like girls.
- When Going to a party dressed up also meant wearing a starched white collar that was itchy.
- When a ’52 Chevy was the envy of the crowd…to cruise, peel out, and watch drag races.
- When people went steady and girls wore a class ring with inches of wrapped dental floss or yarn coated with nail polish so it would fit her finger.
- When car keys were always in the ignition and no one ever locked the door.
- Lying on your back on the grass with friends and saying things like “That cloud looks like a …”
- When stuff from the store came without safety caps and seals because no one had yet tried to poison a perfect stranger, and parents kept such things from children.
- When hamburgers were 25 cents at Vicki’s drive-in on first street; slightly more at Shearer’s. Ice Cream sodas at the Durant Drug Store.
- Duck hunting in the Silo area.
- Taking your date to the Sky View drive-in theatre and ripping off a speaker if for no other reason than it might come in handy someday.
- When the site of Lake Texoma was dry ground.
- Shining your real leather shoes with shoe polish.
- The Adventures of Superman, The Lone Ranger, and The Shadow Knows on the radio Sunday afternoon after lunch at a friend’s house.

- The Ada Game of 1949: We had 1st and goal from Ada's 3 yard in early fall, 1948, and we were behind 6-0. We had to win, but two tries by Nichols, one by Ely, and one by Tomme, and we didn't score. Forever etched into our team's psyche. Ada won one more time.....Paul Johnson '49.
