Joe Bullard

A service will be held at 10:00 Saturday morning in the Durant High School gymnasium for Joe Bullard, 51, Durant, who died Thursday, December 18, 2003, at the Medical Center of Southeastern Oklahoma. The Reverend Rodney Cook will Officiate.

Joe was born Wednesday, March 12, 1952, in Durant to Beovia "Happy" and June (Andis) Bullard, and was a lifelong Durant resident. He married Donna Moss November 20, 2003, in Durant.

He received his masters in Mathematics at Southeastern Oklahoma State University and worked for Durant Public Schools for many years. He was the first administration director at Vision Academy. He was a long-time coach who led the Durant High School football team to the 1979 state championship. He also coached basketball and was a referee for many years.

He developed the computer system for Durant High School. He was a school bus driver and loved airplanes. He owned and operated Joe's Pools.

He served on the Durant Ciry Council from May 1987 to May 1995,with terms as vice-mayor, 1987-88 and mayor from 1988-1991. He was instrumental in the development of Lake Durant. He was the first manager of the Durant City Pool. His love was his family, friends and all the students. He was of the Church of God faith.

Joe was preceded in death by his father, and grandparents Neta Bullard and Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Andis.

He is survived by his wife of the home; parents Merle and June Devereaux, Durant; sons Chad Bullard and wife Tara, Houston, Texas, and Blake Bullard and wife Bethany, Durant; sister Janie Ramsey and husband David, Denison, Texas; brothers John Bullard and wife Tracey, Denison and Jerry Bullard and wife Cheryl, Plano, Texas; stepsister Pam Rich and husband Charles, Durant; stepbrother Chuck Devereaux and wife Jan, Stratford; stepsons Michael Moss, Bokchito, Jeremy Stick and Andrew Shannon, both of Durant, two step grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, Calera, with pallbearers Jerry Presley, Jerry Dowling, Gene Lane, Todd Hughes, Jimmy Don Phillips, Dale Perrin, Alvie Nelson, Roy Brown, Doug Flowers, Boyd Lilley, John Jackson, Greg Massey, John Massey, Leonard Morgan, Keith Standford, Russell Pollam, Ron Barnett, Layne Morgan and Kent Pickens.
